When you find yourself in the Big Easy, you also find yourself in the land of deep fried and meaty. At Carmo, we discovered some delicious, satisfying vegan options that anyone would love. The staff is friendly, and the recipes are so creative.
When we landed in New Orleans, we didn’t even stop and drop our bags at the hotel – we headed straight to eat – of course! Carmo is open for lunch until 3:00 and then re-opens for dinner, so plan flights accordingly.
Pictured below is a delish Brazilian dish, gone vegan called Acarajé. The description is: a black-eyed pea fritter stuffed with vatapá (a cashew peanut coconut paste).
We also tried the Rico: a grilled plantain patty topped with melted vegan cheese, spicy smoked vegan pulled pork, salsa fresca, avocado and tangy sweet spicy “Rico” sauce. This dish was Jenny’s personal fave.
Though our little LA souls weren’t made for Bourbon Street, if we find ourselves in New Orleans again, we know where we can find some great vegan options, with super friendly service.
